Are spirit attachments “catchy”?

My 11 year old daughter just told me the story of the time she was having a sleepover at a friend’s house, and was having a good time like she usually does, but at some point the friend placed a hand on my daughter’s shoulder and something very strange happened.

The moment the hand touched her, she was instantly possessed with the feeling that something terrible was happening. In a panic she began crying uncontrollably. The strangest part for her, is that she had no idea why.

I don’t know what happened in that particular instance, but it seems like a good intro to this post. Are negative spiritual attachments catchy? Yes.

Two days ago, I had an hours-long encounter with a child who has been living for many months with an extremely negative adult, to the point that this poor child has become genuinely traumatized by their hateful, violent behavior.

I expected that the child might be carrying some negative spiritual energy from that circumstance, and at one point I did catch a quick glimpse of it, which I saw as a moment of very uncharacteristic, dark malevolence in the eyes.

I wanted to help clear some of that, but I didn’t get a chance to before they left.

After they were gone, my son, who is *extremely* sensitive to the spiritual realm, felt strongly disturbed, and wanted me to join him in doing an energy clearing of ourselves and the entire house, but I was feeling lazy, and didn’t feel anything negative, so I declined.

But that night as I slept, I had one of my old nightmares. The kind that I used to have every single night, for the last several years, but which completely stopped in the last few months, as I began doing Internal Family Systems therapy, with a focus on Bob Falconer’s work on “UB removal” (aka, spirit removal.)

I’ve been exploring and using the IFS method, in conjunction with my longtime shamanic method [which I learned at a shamanic school in Marin County] and the two together have been extremely powerful.

Like I said, the daily nightmares stopped months ago.

Until the other night, after that encounter with the traumatized child.

So I did a big clearing exercise yesterday morning, in my meditation.

But then last night again, I had a really long, scary dream that left me filled with an intense creepy feeling that lasted long after I awoke this morning.

[I dreamt that I mail-ordered a “xenomorph” (the creature from the movie Alien) which arrived in a reinforced wooden crate, and it was so incredibly dangerous that I knew I didn’t need bother opening the crate, because it would escape on it’s own within a day or two, and start killing everyone and everything in the neighborhood, before spreading worldwide and wiping out all life! What a rookie mistake… Never mail-order a xenomorph, y’all! Never!]

Before my encounter with this child two days ago, I hadn’t had a nightmare in months.

After my encounter I’ve had nightmares two days in a row.

What happened?

Negative spirits are catchy, y’all.

One of my buddies from my old ashram days told me a story of spending the night in the sleeper car of a train in Europe, with a woman he’d just met on the train. After having sex, they slept in each other’s arms when suddenly a very loud and bright lightning struck just outside the train. In that instant, my friend (a very spiritually aware person) awoke and perceived an entity move from the woman into him.

Although she felt relieved the next day without knowing why, my friend wasn’t so happy. It took him many days of effort to remove this entity from his own system.

Because entities are not just catchy, y’all, they can also be quite sticky.

Although these stories may sound ridiculous to us—because we’ve been deeply conditioned from childhood to believe the theory of materialism—ancient cultures from everywhere on the planet knew about this, and they took precautions.

For example, this is in large part where India’s strange rules around spiritual cleanliness come from. They may not have mastered material-world hygiene yet, but they sure do have a lot of deeply ingrained rules around spiritual hygiene, such as not touching people’s bodies, who may be spiritually unclean [literally called “untouchables.”] Here in the West we may consider that to be outdated caste system snobbery, but at one point there was a genuine spiritual understanding behind it. Of course, anyone can be “spiritually unclean.” Even people from the highest Brahmin caste.

If you’re energetically a rather closed person, then you might have less risk of picking up random stuff from others (jeez, I wish I knew what that was like!) but if you’re really open, then you appear to run more risk.

The thing to keep in mind, is that we were ALL spiritually open as babies, and as young children. Some more than others, but all were open enough to pick stuff up—and we did.

We picked up stuff from our parents, as an obvious starting point. And from our early home environment(s). We picked stuff up from our schools, and friends, and their families, and our extended families, and any other place where we had a lot of contact.

I mean, it’s possible to pick something up just by shaking the hand of a stranger, and that is why you see a lot of shamanic types avoiding stuff like that.

The spiritual realm is real and it’s not sparsely populated. It’s teeming to the brim with life. Just like our bodies are swarming with microbes right this moment, whether we see them or not.

Learning basic energy hygiene makes a huge difference in our experience of life.

Energy hygiene practices can be associated with a religion, but they can also be completely non-denominational. Ultimately they are tools, and ought to be taught to every human while still in grade school, IMO.

Dealing with the spiritual dimension also has massive implications in healing from emotional trauma and even from physical ailments.

This is something very important to be aware of, but has often been, quite sadly, occluded by our societal conditioning.
